I wish that I could say,
"We'll meet again on some bright shore
Before the end of days."
Alas, but we can never know
What fate may have in store,
So now we part with hopeful hearts
Into the evermore.
Here’s a quick iPhone recording I made of this song the day I wrote it, February 2, 2021, using the Hum app.
I remember that I was reading George Eliot’s Middlemarch at that time, and the day before I had set Will Ladislaw’s song to music. That obviously inspired me to write this little sea shanty-ish song. I will try to post that recording somewhere at some point.
